What Can You Fix Today?

2019 is a year that will be marked in history and known for the global pandemic that took the world by storm. Everyone's way of life was changed. Children learned remotely, parents worked from home, and we even made acquaintances without seeing their faces behind a face mask.

Nothing is more stressful than uncertainty. I remember going to the store wondering if I would be able to get toilet paper. After this, we experienced a winter storm in Texas that caused major electric outages throughout the state for nearly a week. You can imagine the shock and panic buying that southern Texans like myself experienced. In South Texas, we were not used to seeing a winter of this magnitude. I’m sure our northern friends had a laugh watching us figure out how to scrape ice off our windshields.

However, I learned something through these difficulties. There were so many things I could have done to prepare: have emergency food reserves, a generator, and even paper currency in the event debit cards weren’t being accepted (as we noticed from the winter storm).

Even if I had these things prior, there’s a high chance I missed something in my planning for the future that I would regret later. However, I’ll never regret evading whatever issues I might have otherwise had.

If there’s anything I learned, it is that we must always be prepared.

Granted, we never know what life can throw at us, but we can get ahold of the controllable aspects of our lives:

  1. Are you out of debt?
  2. Are you planning financially for your future?
  3. Do you project your air conditioner breaking down soon?
  4. Are you taking care of your health today to prevent more complications in the future?
  5. Are you preparing yourself for the career of your dreams?

The point is, we cannot know what the future brings. However, we could address some of the issues we have now, so we won’t have more pile up later.
