Murphy's Law

Here are a few ways you know it’s a very hot day: the seat belt is impossible to touch without inflicting a burn, the air conditioner in the car struggles to cool off the car, or you walk outside and a wall of heat stops you in your tracks.

It was that type of day when the family was crossing the Gateway to the Americas International Bridge into the United States from Mexico. There were days when the line to get into the country was so long that you had hoped you planned ahead with water and had fueled up the car. Vendors walked past your car selling you a variety of sweet drinks that reminded you just how thirsty you were.

If you had a good time before, the experience of waiting over two hours with little to no progress was enough to ruin your day. In no other circumstances, other than commuting in large cities, would it take 2 hours to advance 3 miles.

“If you’re crossing the bridge, it’s best not to expect to be back quick,” was the advice given to the family.

That is sound advice!

It’s another way of saying Murphy’s Law which states, “Anything that can go wrong will go wrong.”

Many people might describe the saying as pessimistic. However, I like to think of it as being prepared, so you can have a better time in the worst of times!
