What’s wrong with Tomorrow?
Jun 29, 2022Why does the flow of time feel different in various situations?
If you have to sit through a boring lecture, 30 minutes could feel like an hour. However, at a theme park, you can stand in line for an hour with good company to enjoy a ride that is no more than 3 minutes long.
As an uncle, I try to keep in touch with my nephews. They’re teenagers now, so they have their own group of friends to hang out with. But a good gauge that tells me seeing them is overdue is when they ask me, “When can we play the next board game?”
The last time I counted, I have over 150 board games in my collection. One thing I pride myself in is the ability to choose a game that is suitable and enjoyable to my nephews and niece. So they know that when my wife and I hang out with them, they will be introduced to a new game that they’ll find enjoyable.
The other night our family met for dinner, and I got the ‘gauge question’, “So when are we going to play a board game?”
I quickly realized that the last time we hung out was during Christmas making it nearly 6 months since I had last hung out with them. How did time go so fast?
I remember thinking, “I’ll call them next weekend” on multiple occasions, but time went on much longer than I expected.
I think about this with any project I engage in. I’ll tell myself, “I’ll start tomorrow,” and I don’t. I am very blessed to have a wife that is honest with me. One day I resorted to ask her, “Do you think I do what I say I would do?”
She was gracious enough to say that I did, but I know that I could’ve started a task sooner and improved whatever I was working on by forming routines and habits.
For example, with this blog, I aim to publish one post per month, but what is stopping me from doing one every week?
Which leads to my question, what’s wrong with tomorrow?
Really nothing if you eventually get around to it, but when answering the question, we must also ask ourselves, “How much do I want to accomplish and/or improve?” In which case, the sooner you begin, the more you’ll see progress.
Don’t wait any longer. Create a routine and work on healthy habits today!
